Children learn quickly what is expected of them and react to praise, encouragement and disapproval. Staff are expected to model the type of behaviour they would expect from children. They act in a caring and considerate manner towards each other. They listen to children and offer support to help them verbalise their frustrations, hurts and disappointments.

Smacking or shaking or humiliating children is never acceptable at Hillside. Parents will be informed if it has been necessary to correct a child's behaviour in excess of the norm.
