Every Child Matters

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a statutory framework that sets standards for learning development and care for children from birth to 5 years. The Principles and Practice of this EYFS framework is used in all the rooms throughout the Centre.

The framework is divided into four themes:-

A Unique Child - every child is a competent learner from birth, who can be resilient, capable, confident and self assured.

Positive Relationships - children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person.

Enabling Environments - the environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children's development and learning.

Learning and Development - children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and all areas of Learning and Development are equally important and inter-connected.

To help us observe, plan and assess children's learning and development, there are aspects of development & Early Learning Goals for children to achieve within the six areas of learning.

1. Personal Social & Emotional Development

2. Communication, Language & Literacy

3. Problem Solving, Reasoning & Numeracy

4. Knowledge & Understanding Of The World

5. Physical Development

6. Creative

How does the EYFS work for your child?

Each room has a weekly plan with activities designed to incorporate the six areas of learning, giving opportunities for children to work through the "development matters" in order to achieve the Early Learning Goals. Also included are the developmental next steps of the children which are identified from their profiles which have been completed by their key person and you, as parents/carers.

These must be returned by the date indicated so we can include the needs of the child.

The weekly plan with its activities are carried out and children are observed and outcomes recorded, any aspects of development or ELG achieved are recorded on the child development matters records.
